When a Critical Cybersecurity Threat Hits, Being Prepared Makes All the Difference

How KSP Technology Used AI to respond quickly to a major PHP security vulnerability

How KSP Technology used AI to respond quickly to a major PHP security vulnerability.

Cybersecurity threats don’t wait for a convenient time. They don’t care if it’s after business hours, if your team has gone home, or if tomorrow is going to be a busy day.

And when a major security vulnerability is discovered, the last thing a business owner wants to hear is, “We’re looking into it.” They want to know two things:

Are we affected? And is somebody taking care of it?

At KSP Technology, that’s our job.

On October 21, 2026, a critical security advisory was released involving PHP, the software that helps power millions of websites and business applications around the world.

For our team, it meant getting to work. And thanks to a combination of experienced IT professionals, knowledge of our clients’ systems, and artificial intelligence, we were able to move quickly.

A Major Security Alert. A Quick Response.

The security advisory identified two critical vulnerabilities in PHP, known as CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619.

In simple terms, these vulnerabilities could potentially allow someone to execute unauthorized commands on an affected server without needing to log in. That’s a serious problem.

And because PHP is used by so many websites and business applications, the potential impact was significant. But here’s where having the right IT partner makes a difference. Rather than waiting to see which clients might experience problems, our team immediately began assessing the systems we manage.

We used AI to help review technical information, identify potentially affected systems, and organize the work that needed to be done. Our team continued working overnight and into the early morning.

By the morning of October 22, we had verified that the active websites on the hosting server we reviewed were running vendor-patched PHP.

That didn’t mean the work was over. But it was an important step in addressing a serious threat.

AI Didn’t Replace Our IT Experts. It Made Them Better.

There’s a lot of discussion about artificial intelligence replacing jobs.

We see it a little differently.

At KSP, we believe AI is an incredible tool when it’s put in the hands of people who know what they’re doing.

Think about what happens when a major cybersecurity alert is released.

There are technical advisories to read, software versions to check, affected systems to identify, security updates to verify, and services to test.

It’s detailed work, and the stakes are high.

AI helped our team move through that information faster, identify what needed attention, and make better use of our time.

But AI didn’t make the final decisions.

Our people did.

Our experienced technicians reviewed the findings, implemented the appropriate protections, and verified that those changes were working.

Because when it comes to protecting your business, technology should support good judgment, not replace it.

Installing an Update Is One Thing. Knowing It Works Is Another.

One of the biggest misconceptions about cybersecurity is that installing a software update means the job is finished. It isn’t always that simple.

During our response, we checked affected hosting software, verified the appropriate vendor security patches, and confirmed that the updated software was actually running the websites.

We also refreshed relevant security protections, checked the health of services, reduced unnecessary exposure where appropriate, and disabled an unused affected component without disrupting the monitoring service it accompanied.

These may seem like small details, but they’re important. There’s a big difference between assuming something is protected and verifying that it is.

Temporary protections can help reduce risk, but they don’t necessarily replace the need to install the appropriate security updates.

At KSP, we believe the job isn’t finished until we’ve checked the work.

The Best Cybersecurity Response Starts Before the Threat Arrives.

Here’s something we’ve learned from years of supporting Saskatchewan businesses.

The organizations that respond best to technology problems aren’t necessarily the ones with the biggest IT budgets. They’re the ones that are prepared.

They know what systems they have. They have people looking after them. They keep their technology maintained. And when something happens, they have a plan.

That’s the advantage of proactive managed IT services. We’re already familiar with the environments we support. We don’t have to start from scratch every time a new vulnerability makes the news.

And now, with AI helping us work more efficiently, we can take that proactive approach even further. It’s not about using AI because it’s the latest technology trend. It’s about using it to deliver better results for the businesses that trust us.

Faster assessments. More focused action. Better verification. And fewer things for our customers to worry about.

Technology Changes. Our Commitment Doesn’t.

The technology we use to protect businesses will continue to evolve. There will be new security threats, new vulnerabilities, and new tools designed to help us respond. Artificial intelligence is going to play an increasingly important role in that work.

But one thing isn’t changing.

Behind every system we manage is a business, a team of people, and a responsibility we take seriously.

That’s why we continue monitoring vendor security updates, following up on outstanding findings, and improving how we respond to emerging threats.

Our customers don’t need to become cybersecurity experts. They need to know they have people looking out for them. And that’s exactly what we’re here to do.

Is Your Business Protected?

If you’ve heard about the recent PHP security vulnerabilities and aren’t sure whether your website, server, or business applications could be affected, we’re happy to help.
